follower of Jesus Christ, she trusted God through every season of her life and often
declared, “I’m blessed and highly favored of the Lord.” Those words were more than a favorite saying—they reflected the faith that sustained her each day.
Prayer was central to Ethel’s life. She faithfully lifted her family, friends, and anyone in need before the Lord, believing wholeheartedly in His faithfulness. Those who knew her knew they could always count on her prayers, her encouragement, and her steadfast faith.
Ethel found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved working puzzles, crocheting, and baking pound cakes for family and friends. She had a gift for making a little go a long way. Whether it was a meal, a dollar, or an act of kindness, she always found something to share. She was quick to help, generous with what she had, and always ready to offer wisdom or encouragement.
Family was Ethel’s greatest joy. She loved fiercely, spoke honestly, and never hesitated to stand up for those she loved. More than anything, she wanted her family to know they were loved, supported, and covered in prayer.
Ethel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emanuel Deason, Jr.; her parents, Israel Hilliard and Pearlene Hilliard; her siblings, Lena Brown, Hazel Moore, Lula Jones, and John Willie Hilliard; her daughters, Sylvia Deason and Melissa Deason; and her granddaughters, Celeste Scott and Carrissa Hunt.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Wanda Deason, Brian Deason (Tonya Deason), and Bruce Deason; her son-in-love, Willie Scott, husband of the late Sylvia Deason; and Audry Ryans, whom she loved as a daughter. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Though Ethel will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the family she loved, the lives she touched, and the faith she lived. We take comfort in knowing that the woman who so often reminded us she was “blessed and highly favored of the Lord” is now resting in
His presence.
