Gene was the youngest of 12 born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 13, 1932. He was drafted to the United States Army in 1952 where he served proudly till 1954 then received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Baltimore. In 1953 he married the love of his life Dorothy Anne to whom he remained married to for 56 years. Gene built a career in Purchasing for the Oil and Gas Industry. He was also a member of the American Legion. Gene’s greatest passions in life were his faith in God, his family, and gardening.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents William and Mary, and 11 siblings. He was survived by four children Kathleen Buskirk, Lorrie Hobbs, Jeannie Childers and husband Michael, Jimmy Horn and wife Nita. His grandchildren Shanna Buskirk, Samantha Thompson and wife Jodi, Catie Hobbs, Mitch Hobbs, Amanda White, Jimmy Nieto and wife Sherri, Ryan Horn and wife Kristie, Logan Horn and Taylor Horn; as well as great grandchildren, Michaela, Emily, Dakota, Alicia, Teagan, Kinley, Audra, Justin, Oliver and Lyla.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 23, 2017 at St. Jerome Catholic Church 8825 Kempwood Dr, Houston, TX 77080 beginning with a Viewing and Rosary at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. A small luncheon will be provided until he will be taken to his final resting place at the Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers may be sent to American Heritage Funeral Home 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
2 Corinthians 5:6-8 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
