Eugene Meredith

Eugene was born June 29, 1939, in Bradley, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Birse and Joe Moore Sr. She was affectionately known as “Sister, Jean, and Eula Jean”. She was the eldest of nine children. She attended the public schools of Lafayette County, Arkansas, and moved to Houston at the age of seventeen.

At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ. When in Houston, she became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late W.G. Wright. She served as a deaconess. She later joined Greater New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Thomas Williams Jr. where she served on the usher board and was a deaconess. She joined Household of Faith Church under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth Campbell, where she remained until her health failed.

She was united in holy matrimony on December 25, 1960, and this union was blessed with three children. She was a homemaker for quite some time and worked at Houston Linen Service. She worked as a cook in the North Forest Independent School District. She subsequently retired at M.B. Smiley High School in 2001. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and reading.

She was a master cook, and everyone loved her sweet potato pies and banana pudding. Eugene was outspoken, direct, and frank, but she also loved everyone. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

She quietly departed this life on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 5:15 AM. She was preceded in death by both parents, her siblings, Rose Moore, Betty Jones, Charles Moore, Eula Jones, Maxine Kizzee, and Joe Moore, Jr. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of Josh Meredith, her children Frederick Meredith (Shelia), Nina Howard (Earnest Howard), Cedric Meredith. Her grandchildren are Kristina Meredith, Jeremy Meredith (Alexis), Jalen Howard, Marion John Nelson, and Laura Nelson; one great-grandson, Jayden Meredith. She leaves to mourn her sisters, Thelma Caldwell and Ruby Terrell (Ken), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
