Eugene "Gene" Driver Ray, Jr., peacefully passed away on June 10, 2026 at the age of 77. He was born July 27, 1948 to Ann and Eugene Ray in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Gene was the second child of three and the last to survive.
He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed both salt and fresh water adventures. His passion was fishing for specs, reds, and flounder along the Gulf Coast, especially at his favorite spot, known as, "The End of the World," in Palacios, TX
While Gene lived in Conroe, he attended the Lone Star Cowboy Church in Montgomery, where he served as a greeter, and later attended The Ark in Conroe. Through the churches, he volunteered regularly at the food bank serving Montgomery County.
He was a food lover (especially fried shrimp from Guidry's in Deer Park), a jokester, and a loyal Crimson Tide fan, who loved his family, friends, church community, and his beloved pup, Rita.
Gene was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Thalia Pratt Ray and Anne Ray Hoffman. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Karl Hoffman, nephew, Michael Hoffman (and wife, Kaitlin) and nieces, Adrienne Aaron (and husband, Marc) and Hannah Hoffman.
Thanks to all who provided support and love to Gene through the years, especially his great friends, Anita and Malcolm Stepp of Conroe, and numerous other caregivers at Willow Care Cottages in Manvel and Parson's House in LaPorte.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Gene's legacy by demonstrating simple acts of kindness to one another.
