

Evelyn Joyce Lacy, 89, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on February 6, 2025. Evelyn was born on October 23, 1935, in Wright City, Texas, to parents J.W. Hinton and Nancy Hinton. She graduated from New London High School and went on to receive a Master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin University.
Evelyn met the love of her life, Curtis Lacy, and together they raised their son, James “Scott” Lacy. A devoted educator, Evelyn taught in various Texas school districts for over 54 years, leaving a lasting impact on countless students.
Her commitment to church and community service was unwavering. Evelyn was an active member of the Lambda Delta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, serving as president from 1996 to 1998. She was also a former president of The Association of Texas Professional Educators and was honored as a member of Who's Who in American Education.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Nancy Hinton; her brother, J.W. Hinton Jr.; and her beloved husband, Curtis J. Lacy. She is survived by her son, James “Scott” Lacy; niece, Deanna Turner and her husband, Jason Turner; great-nephew, Camden Turner; and a host of cousins and friends who will miss her deeply.
Pallbearers include J. Scott Lacy, Doug Fuller, Dan Fuller, Wade Hester, Jason Turner and Mike Stuckey.
A funeral services for Evelyn will be held Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039, followed by a graveside from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
