Evelyn was born 3/27/30 to Rudolph and Christina Wick in the Swiss Alp community near Schulenburg, Texas. She finished the “high” 8th grade and then worked at home with her family picking cotton and helping out with her younger brothers and sisters. Later, she worked in a doctor’s office where she helped deliver a baby in the parking lot. After that, she worked as a waitress at Travelers Café in Weimar, Texas where she met her future husband, Vernon. They married in 1953 and had one child, Karen.
Evelyn spent the rest of her life enjoying her role as wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed watching her “soaps” and the Wheel of Fortune, drinking coffee, eating Cheetos and “something sweet”.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Vernon. She is survived by her daughter Karen and fiance, Rick Powell; her brothers Wilfred Wick (Grace) of Eagle Lake, Alvin Wick (Betty) of Weimar, Clarence Wick of Weimar and Elroy Wick (Annie) of Weimar; her sisters Gladys Berger (Donald) of Schulenburg, Lorene Schramek (Gene) of Schulenburg and Delrose Dixon of Hallettsville; her sisters-in-law Shirley Parr (Ray) of Goliad and Pat Walley of New Braunfels; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family also wants to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital for their dedication and care of our loved one. Also, the family wants to thank Evelyn’s caregivers, Lisa Clewis, Marshette Demart, and Brenda Clewis, for the special care and love they gave her over the last few years. And, many thanks go to her sister, Delrose Dixon, for always being there to give relief when Karen needed a break.
