

Evelyn Nelson, 94, passed away December 12, 2012 in Houston, Texas. She was born on August 8, 1918 in Moscow, Idaho. Evelyn and her husband, Bill, initially lived in Billings, Montana. They moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma briefly and then relocated to Houston, Texas in 1966, where she lived the rest of her life. Her husband Bill retired from Exxon after 41 years. Many of their close friends were Exxon employees who also relocated with the company from Billings, Montana. Evelyn served as a volunteer at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital for over 20 years and loved being of service to others. She enjoyed a very close relationship with her sister, Betty Miller, of Clarkston, Washington. Evelyn was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing several times a week with a close group of long-time friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William H. Nelson. She is survived by her son, Barry Nelson and his wife, Marla of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Fletcher Cordell, Mary Stratmann and Will Nelson; great-grandchild, McCulloch Cordell; sister, Betty Miller of Clarkston, Washington and her dear friends, Dale and Debbye Lehman of Houston and their sons, Paul and John. Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Lehman, Paul Lehman, John Lehman, Fletcher Cordell, Will Nelson and Ben Stratmann. A special thanks is given to her friends and caregivers at University Place Retirement Community in Houston. The Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012, 9-10 am at the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will follow at 10 am.
