Born on July 14, 1947, Fannie Harris Rose, was the cherished middle child of Jessie and Merriler Harris, growing up in a home filled with the laughter and camaraderie of her four siblings. They were a tight-knit bunch that forged an unbreakable bond. This bond carried them through childhood meandering up Long Street to them all graduating from Bethune High School, where Fannie was class of 1965. As Fannie's elder siblings became adults they ventured to Houston, Texas, and she followed suit, arriving in 1973.
Not long after moving to Houston, Fannie met the love of her life Jesse B. Rose. They enjoyed an amazing three-month courtship before deciding to dedicate their lives to one another in 1974 and ultimately spending the next 50 years together. Their journey was a testament to love, on which they built a strong and beautiful partnership. From this foundation, they raised Althea, creating a family overflowing with joy and warmth.
Beyond her roles as a loving wife and mother, Fannie possessed a remarkable combination of business acumen and a strong sense of service. This was evident in her more than 25-year career with the Texas Department of Human Services and her earlier work with the Arthritis Foundation, where she consistently sought to make a positive impact. Even in retirement, Fannie's spirit of service continued to shine. With her savvy business sense, she ensured her loved ones were financially secure and protected, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Fannie's life was also deeply rooted in her faith. As a young woman, she was baptized at Perrin Street Church of Christ, and later became a long-time member of Studewood Church of Christ. She actively worked with the ladies of the church, attended bible study, and prepared meals as needed. Her faith was a guiding light, providing her with strength and a sense of community.
Rounding out a fulfilling life, Fannie also enjoyed an array of simple pleasures. She found joy in bowling, in peaceful fishing trips with Jesse, and, above all, in cooking and baking. She was an excellent cook always trying, perfecting, and teaching family new recipes. Baking delicious cakes was also a gift she generously shared with family and friends, she even took delight in the art of cake decorating.
Fannie Harris Rose lived a life rich in love, faith, and service. She was a pillar of strength and a woman who touched the lives of many. Her story is a reminder that a life well-lived is one filled with love, laughter, and the joy of giving back.
She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband Jesse B. Rose, her daughter Althea Rose, her honorary daughter Shannon Harris Dukes (Derrick), her siblings Pearlie Harris McKee, Freddie Lee Harris, and James Harris (Linda), her grandchildren Donnell Roberson and Layla Lyles, and all who knew and loved her.
