Feliciana DeLeon

FELICIANA DE LEON, died May 21, 2013. Daughter of Valentin Garcia Bettencourt and Maria Coronado Costilla, “Chanita” was born in Dr. Arroyo, N.L., MX. She was a teacher who taught 1st to 3rd grade for 28 years in southern Nuevo León prior to coming to the U.S. She had a profound faith in America. She manifested her conviction by becoming a naturalized citizen and volunteering with NALEO to help eligible residents apply for U.S. citizenship in the 1990’s. Chanita loved to read; and like her father, she loved to write didactic poetry. She is survived by 9 kids, 42 grand kids, 28 great-grand kids, 4 siblings and other kin who will always love her. She is preceded in death by spouse José G. de León, son Jorge H. de León. Her family expresses their abiding gratitude to Martha (Nuñez) de León who cared for her over the last years. A service will be held on Fri., May 24 at 2 pm at Funeraria Del Angel, 6330 Gulf Fwy., Hou., TX 77023. Interment at Forest Park Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale, will follow at 3:15 pm.
