Dad:

It has been one year, and all I can say is that this has been the most difficult year of my entire life.  Not one second of the day goes by that I don't think of you, want to tell you something or come in through the back door of your house expecting you to be sitting in your normal chair watching the news.  The sting has lessened, but the hurt is still there....

What I wouldn't give to talk to you now more time, or to hear you joke one more time.  You have missed so much, the boys are growing fast.  Funny how they each carry a big part of you in their hearts, Garrett with his diving performances by the pool and Fer who has turned into such a wonderful husband and father. 

We get a little bit stronger everyday, but things will never be the same again.  No family gathering is the same without a bit of "Nene" humor or your dance moves.

We know you are with us all the time, and have to laugh when it rains.

John and I are so sorry to hear of Fernando's passing. We were your neighbors on Susquehannah in Tower Oaks when you lived next to Ted And Elizabeth Allebach. You and Fernando welcomed us into the neighborhood and you even framed some pictures I had brought back from a 10th Anniversary trip John and I had taken to the Caribbean. We enjoyed your girls Louisa and Mariana and have wondered about them thru the years.  At some point one or both worked for telemundo as news anchors if we heard correctly?  If you recall one of the girls ran the car off into our front yard during high school. John & I were never so happy we had taken a big old pine tree out that would have been right in her path just the week before. We hated leaving the neighborhood but with our 4 small sons and Eldridge Parkway taking over our street we had to move. We have not seen or spoken in at least 26-27 years but when people in your past pass on and you have had a personal connection with them in your life as Fernando and you have you remember them and your times together with joy and then sadness for their passing.  May the Lord Bless you and your family in this time of loss and sadness.

We have so many wonderful memories of our times with you (and the "Mexican hunk" as I always called Fernando)in Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, San Miguel, Houston, San Diego, San Antonio, Padre Island  and others. It's those times that Fernando will want us to remember.  We will miss him.
