On Thursday, March 19, 2026, Florence Doreen Messenger, 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A woman of unwavering faith, Doreen leaves behind a profound legacy of love and devotion. She was an inspiration to her family and a powerful prayer warrior whose intercession left an eternal impact on her church, her friends, and those she held dear.
Known affectionately by her family as “Momo,” Doreen was born in Simcoe, Norfolk, Ontario, on August 31, 1931, to Fredric R. and Doris (Kindrey) Archibald. She was the devoted older sister to Ruth Laffey. During her final year of college, Doreen moved to Mexico, where she married William P. Messenger in 1954. Together, they raised three children: Cathie, Sharon, and William.
Doreen and William dedicated their lives to the service of God, beginning with youth outreach and later planting Bible study groups and helping establish churches throughout Mexico. In her later years, she continued her spiritual journey as a cherished member of Iglesia de Jesucristo Palabra Miel in Houston, Texas.
To the world, she was a dedicated servant of God, but to those who called her "Momo," she was the steady, joyful heart of the family.
We will always cherish the bubbly voice that greeted us whenever we called. Momo was relentless; for her, "tomorrow" simply didn't exist. When she felt something was crucial, she had a special way of motivating everyone else to get it done right then and there. And who could forget her favorite rallying cry? “Is anyone ready for IHOP? I just need my hat, gloves, and sunscreen, and I’m ready to go!”
Favorite Bible verses: Psalm 84:1-4 How lovely is your dwelling place, LORD Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young— a place near your altar, LORD Almighty, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house; They are ever praising you.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Mark 16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
