Florine Ivery was the second child born to the late William and Velma Ivery in Aubrey, Arkansas. As the second oldest of four children, her ability to nurture and lead came naturally. Florine attended Madison High School and graduated in 1955. There, she sparked her passion for track and love for hurdles. After graduation, Florine moved to Houston, Texas, where she began her service to god, the church, and her children. Florine joined Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church and was a dedicated member for over 30 years. Serving on the usher board and home extension program under Pastor Samuel Compton. When it came to her beloved children, there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. She loved, nurtured and cherished her eight children to the best of her ability. She was their Teacher, Best friend, Partner-in- Crime and sometimes even their worst enemy(out of love). MOMMA was there when there was nobody else!
Florine loved to cook, smile, and spend time with her family and friends. She devoted most of her life taking care of her family and praising god. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, church member and friend! Her love was the greatest to have, just don’t go in her kitchen or stick your hand in her pots! Florine completed her God-given mission and accepted her wings on April 24, 2023.
Florine was preceded in death by her parents (William and Velma Ivery) and sister (Pearlie Mae Ivery). She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her siblings, Christopher C. Ivery, Merlene Williams; her children, Ben Black, Jr., Robert Black, Deborah Black, Faith Black, Christopher Black, Tony Black, Shannon Black, Rodney Black; 28 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
