Floyd "Pete" Jones, born in Waynesboro Mississippi December 20, 1936 to Jack and Bertha Jones. Floyd quickly acquired the nick name Pete. Pete was predeceased by his parents and his sisters and brothers, Archie, Nancy, Sylvia and Alfred and one son Mathew. Pete leaves 4 children: Nancy Coffelt, Sandy Hecka, Pete Jones, and Brian Jones; along with numerous grandchildren and great grand children.
Pete lived on a farm growing up and learned the love of hunting and fishing that would carry him through his entire life with one story after another. He was always up for a good opening weekend story or the big fish stories he would share. He joined the army and was shipped out to Korea. Once out of the army he became a “Jack of all trades” even working as a manager in a Safway in the vegetable department. One of his fondest memories was having to change his white shirt after going home at lunch and helping with his twin baby girls due to the baby food splatters all over that shirt. He was a carpenter, electrician, plumber, painter and his last trade being a tile setter. He met his soul mate Lillian Janice in 1981 and they were married September 11, 1982 about the same time he was learning his new occupation in tile. Pete quickly made friends with everyone in the construction industry and people in and around Houston were amused with this new character from Mississippi with a story to tell on just about any subject. Unfortunately Janice and Petes whirlwind love story had the Lupus she was fighting before they got married come out of remission and for the next 22 years until her passing there was not a day that went by without it raising its ugly head and both of them trying to do the best to deal with it. There was not a day that went by that they did not say I love you or write a little love note. Her nickname became “love bug Jonesy” and his “outlaw”. Two weeks after the passing of Janice , Pete suffered his first heart attack and would have another one two months later. After his bypass surgery he returned to his work and continued for 2 more years as tile superintendent. He never wanted to quit completely so he would go to general contractors offices to pick up or deliver samples, invoices or checks. He kept the other employees at Décor-Craft in line so to speak and with a fresh cup of coffee and of course gave his 2 cents worth of advice on how a job should be installed or done. Pete never was short of words and loved to pick on anyone that walked in the room. If he walked into the kitchen it was “where are the biscuits and gravy”. If you wanted a cup of coffee his famous quote was, I didn’t put too many dirty socks in there. And when you told him bye…hey call me if you need anything. He and Janice loved Elvis and their last trip together was to Graceland to see where the “King” had lived.
Ironically Pete passed away on August 16th the same day Elvis passed away.
We will miss your jokes and your laughter..you will be greatly missed Pete Jones!
