Adalina was born in Dawson, Texas to Clarence Holt and Carrie Mae Westmoreland Holt on January 21, 1922. She married her high school sweetheart on December 11, 1940 in Corsicana, Texas. She was a loyal member of Sugar Land Methodist Church and the Joy of Living Bible Study for 45 years, whose members faithfully visited her every week when she became unable to attend. She was a proud volunteer at Memorial Hermann Hospital until the remarkable age of 97.
Mom and Dad began their life together in 1940 in Houston where they raised their family in Bellaire and Westbury. They moved to Sugar Land in 1980, where she lived in her home until her passing. At almost 104 years old, She was blessed with a long and full life. She loved her home and was continuously “redecorating” to the end! But above all, her family was her joy. She was a wonderful cook, and treasured time to share cooking skills and family recipes with her great-granddaughter. A lifetime follower of baseball, she loved hearing about all sports that each grandchild and great-grandchild played, and couldn’t resist a game of catch at 102 years old! She delighted in each visit from her grand and great-grandchildren from all over the country, most recently meeting her newest 5 month old great-granddaughter just weeks ago.
Adalina is preceded in death by the love of her life Wilmer K. Davis, parents Carrie Mae and Clarence Holt, sister Mary Dalton Lang, and brother Claude L Holt.
Adalina is survived by son Gerald Holt Davis and wife Julie Smythe Davis; daughter Nancy Davis Zimmerman and husband Joe R. Zimmerman; son William Keith Davis and wife Elizabeth J. Davis; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family of Adalina wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Payal Nangia, Dr. Wamda Ahmed, and the 5th floor nurses and staff at Sugar Land Methodist Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Mom and for standing beside our family with love during Mom’s last days.
We are especially grateful for Sandra Butler who loved and cared for Mom, and as Mom would say, “brought sunshine and laughter into my house every day!”, for loyal and loving friends Gloria Morris, Janet Morris, and Lucy Hilburn, and for so many other dear friends who visited her often during her last years. She loved you all beyond words.
"She always leaned to watch for us
Anxious if we were late,
In winter by the window; In summer by the gate.
And though we mocked her tenderly,
Who had such foolish care,
The long way home would seem more safe,
Because she waited there.
Her thoughts were all so full of us,
She never could forget.
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet.
Waiting till we come home to her,
Anxious if we are late.
Watching from Heaven's window,
Leaning from Heaven's gate.”
