Frances Winkler Miller, 98, of Houston, Texas, was taken home to our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. She was born in The Grove, Texas to William and Martha Dube on November 28, 1919. She graduated from Temple High School and later married Waldemar “Shorty” Winkler on June 25, 1939. They had one son, William “Bill” Winkler in 1943.
After returning from WWII, Frances and Shorty moved to Houston, Texas where they started Winkler Automotive. Frances worked as the business’ bookkeeper for 35 years. They joined Trinity Lutheran Church in 1946. She loved the church and was active in the Ladies Circle and enjoyed working on the annual Turkey Super and Super Bowl sandwich sales. She loved The University of Texas and she and Shorty attended home football games as long as health permitted.
Shorty passed away on February 28, 1979. She later married Raymond Miller on April 7, 1984. They enjoyed traveling and took trips throughout the US and overseas. Raymond passed away on January 29, 2000.
She spent her last years at Brookdale Galleria where she was loved by all who knew her. She was a whiz at bingo. Instead of money, they paid out the prizes in candy. Her room had candy and chocolates stashed everywhere. Regardless of her state of health, when asked how she was doing, she always smiled and said she was “doing fine”.
In addition to Shorty and Raymond, she was preceded to Heaven by her parents William and Martha Dube, brothers Bill Dube and wife Katherine, Charles Dube and wife Bernadine, Clarence Dube and wife Betty and Lawrence Dube and wife Eleanor, sisters Ruth Winkler and husband Louis and Margaret Proft and husband Bill.
She is survived by son Bill Winkler and wife Susan, Catherine Winkler, mother of grandsons Mark Winkler and wife Kim, Craig Winkler and wife Michelle, great-grand children Joey Winkler, Christy Winkler, Riley Winkler, Chloe Winkler and Chelsea Winkler.
The family requests that persons wishing to remember Frances consider giving memorials in her name to the Trinity Lutheran Organ Fund, 800 Houston Avenue, Houston, TX 77007, or to a favorite charity which is dear to you.
