

Frances Lucille Braly Reed was born Sep. 29, 1930, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Dallas. She died April 6, 2014, in Houston. She was a nurse anesthetist who worked in many Houston hospitals until she was 81. She graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1950.
She earned her registered nursing degree at Jeff Davis Hospital, where she scrubbed with Dr. Denton Cooley, a lifelong friend. Ms. Reed specialized in anesthesia nursing at Baylor Hospital, in Dallas. She was a registered nurse for 60 years and a registered nurse anesthetist for 55 years. She worked in many Houston hospitals, including Diagnostic Clinic, St. Luke’s, Hermann Memorial, Medical Center, and others.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Nyles D. Reed, and two children, Edward Anthony Reed (his wife Brendi) and Rebecca Gail Shapley. A third child, Glenn Mark Reed, is deceased. Frances Reed is also survived by his children, Glenn Mark Reed Jr. and Michelle Reed Morrow. She is also survived by a brother, Mark Braly, his wife Patricia Hartley, and his two daughters, Vivien and Julie, in California. Also, Rebecca’s children, Wesley, April, Ashley, Paige, and Alexis.
She traveled with her husband in Mexico, England, Scotland, Ireland, Hong Kong, Macau, and South Korea, where Nyles was honored by the South Korean government for his service in the Korean War.
A resident of Pearland for 27 years, she will be remembered as a great cook, for her love of wildflowers, especially bluebonnets, and as a loving mother and grandmother. Her many medical colleagues will remember her as a tireless worker.
