Francisco J. Del Castillo, M.D., age 93 was called home by our Heavenly Father on Sunday September 23, 2018. Dr. Castillo was born in Las Villas, Cuba in the town of Meneses. He studied at La Progresiva de Cardenas, a Presbyterian school in the province of Matanzas, Cuba, founded by American Presbyterian minister Dr. Robert Wharton. He went on to study Medicine at The University of Havana, graduating in 1954. He specialized in peripheral vascular surgery, was a published author and professor of Medicine at the University of Havana. He immigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1971 and settled in Houston, Texas in 1972 where he resumed the practice of Medicine after passing boards and completing a residency in Family Medicine with Memorial Baptist Hospital, now Memorial Hermann Hospital System. Dr. Castillo is survived by his daughter Teresa C. Del Castillo, son Francisco J. Del Castillo, Jr., D.D.S., granddaughters Erica L. Sedeño Goetgeluk and Alexandra P. Sedeño Marino, great grandsons, James Grant Goetgeluk and Leo William Marino, and godson Hector M. Alvarez.
Visitation will be on Thursday September 27 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm with religious services at 7:00 pm at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 9:30 am on Friday September 28 at the funeral home with interment following at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
Dr. Castillo will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, dedicated physician, loyal friend, and a most gentle man.
