Francisco “Poncho” Gasca, 58, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, integrity, and lasting impact. Known affectionately as Poncho, he proudly served in the United States Navy for eight years as a lieutenant, reflecting his strong sense of duty and commitment to others. After his military service, he earned his Master’s degree in Engineering from George Washington University and built a distinguished career as an engineer spanning more than twenty years. He was respected by colleagues and all who knew him. Poncho’s greatest impact was found in the lives he touched. He was known for his integrity, generosity, compassion, and wonderful sense of humor, making others feel welcome and valued. He enjoyed watching sports, and spending time with those closest to him. A devoted Houston Astros fan, he especially enjoyed taking his dad to games, while watching the Houston Rockets with his little brother gave them meaningful time together. During the holidays, he proudly shared his cooking skills and helped create occasions that brought family together. Poncho’s loyalty and caring nature made him a beloved brother, devoted son and family man, respected professional, proud veteran, and dependable friend. His laughter, wisdom, and joyful spirit will live on through the stories shared by those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe C. Gasca and his sister, Celia Gasca.
He is survived by his mother, Maria Gasca; his son, Andreas Gasca; and his siblings, Maria Bernal, Manuel Gasca, Teresa Requena, Guadalupe Gasca Jr., Cecilia Gonzales, Carmen Almendarez, Inez Gasca, and Juan Gasca. Though he is no longer with us, the time he spent with his family and friends—including Astros games with his dad, Rockets games with his little brother—will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
