Born in Cavite, Philippines, living with his mom Amparo Abueg, and his 6 siblings (Efren, Romy, Nanding, Evelyn, Lita, and Totoy), Frank was a young ambitious and determined man, fueled by desire for a better way of life, immigrated to the United States with his wife, Lina, and their three children - Mel, Catherine and Amy - with dreams of opportunity, education and life’s riches. 1973 was the start of his American dream.
Frank was a lifelong student and loved learning. He had a dream for his children - have successful careers in their own right and start their own families. He passionately advocated the importance of education and studies, praised teachers when his children brought home good grades, and encouraged college pursuits so that they can graduate and begin their new lives. This American dream came true.
Frank had a career in computers. Frank took a position as a Computer Programmer when he arrived in the U.S. He was interested in the latest technologies and the future of computers, so he bought the Osborne, the first portable computer. You knew he was experimenting with the Osborne when you heard the high pitch screeching, static sound of the computer connecting to his destination via dial-up modem.
And what father doesn’t love sports? Frank’s Saturdays were filled watching Wide World of Sports watching George Foreman box, Jack Nicklaus in golf, bad-boy John McEnroe at Wimbledon, and perfect game bowler Mark Roth. If not watching sports, Frank loved to bowl and played in a league for many years. He brought his kids bowling every Saturday and this became a family bowling day. He switched to playing golf, which became a passion for the rest of his lifetime. He looked forward to his birthday every year, as his daughter and son-in-law took him golfing, weathering the cold and sometimes wet golfing days in January.
Frank was born again in the Christian faith later in life. He was a steadfast follower and learner of the Bible. He spoke passionately of the word of the Lord and His promises of the afterlife. It is with this belief and his devotional daily prayers where he found peace and comfort knowing that he was finally going to meet his maker. Frank loved the Lord and his family and he will be dearly missed.
Frank is survived by his two children Mel Abueg and Catherine Schwartz; his grandchildren - Ben and Tristan Abueg, Wyatt and Willow Schwartz, Marissa and Joshua Mills; his children-in-law Marianne Abueg, Darin Schwartz, David and Sheryll Mills, Cindy and Steve Holchak, and their children Stephanie and Travis Holchak.
Frank is preceded in death by his two children, Raymond and Amy, who went to be with the Lord early in their lives - baby Raymond at 4 months and loving, kind-hearted Amy at 39 years old; and his second wife, dance partner, and world-traveling partner Reeda. Frank spoke many times how excited he was and happy he will be reunited with them, his mom, brother, sister and many other family members from back home in the Philippines.
