Frederick Harrison Govreau peacefully passed away August 16, 2022. He was born February 24, 1930 in Bisbee, arizona. Fred attended Fullerton High School in Fullerton, california where he met and fell in love with his future Dona. After graduating with a Masters in Petroleum Engineering from Standford University, Fred joined the Union Oil Corporation of California (later Unocal), spending his entire career working at what he loved. Fred was a gifted engineer for Unocal, moving from California to Texas before serving as General Manager of Louisiana Operations in Lafayette, Louisiana and later as Vice President and General manager of the Unocal Southeast asia Region, moving the family to the Balikpapan, Indonesia for three years. Returning to Houston in 1977 Fred oversawUnocal's U.S. Gulf Coast Region.
After retiring in 1985, Fred and Dona enjoyed many years traveling with family and friends, and their shared loved and skill for dancing found them on the dance floor often. An avid outdoorsman, Fred excelled at hunting, fly-fishing, camping and hiking. He was a skilled tennis player and carpenter. Fred had a passion for games and was always up for a hand of gin rummy where he routinely schooled most challengers.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents William Roy and Hazel Downard Govreau, brother William and son Bradley. He survived by his beloved wife of 73 years Donaleta Dudney Govreau, son Steven (Lisa), Thomas (Brettina) and Joseph ( Rosemarie), daughter-in-law Carla, eight grandchildren (Kelli Norman, Lindsey Sharp (Andrew), Megan Lagoy (Adel), Brian, Jason, Andrew, Tristian, and Jaclyn Govreau and eleven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held September 10, 2022 at 2pm at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lane, Houston, 77042.
