G. Dallas Foster

July 25, 1959August 15, 2011

We gather together to remember and celebrate the life of our beloved brother, uncle and friend George Dallas Foster. Dallas came into this world on July 25th, 1959 in Macon, Ga. and left us too early on August 15th, 2011 in Houston, Tx. He was the son of Connie & E.G. Foster, brother of Susan, Cheryl and E.G. Jr., uncle of Tia, L’Anda, and Kelci. Dallas attended LH Williams Elementary, Central High School and he graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1981 with a Bachelors of Arts degree.

Dallas began his lifelong love affair with music while singing gospel in his church choir and until his passing, he was the lead singer of the band Just Got Lucky. Just Got Lucky opened for bands like Rare Earth, J. Geils and even the legendary Santana. Back in the early days, the band became synonymous with their massive consumption of “lemon drops” and yes, just like the Blues Brothers there were many a night that the money paid to the band didn’t cover the bar bill!

Just Got Lucky was aptly and ironically named before Dallas became the recipient of a life saving heart transplant in 1999. Dallas was passionate about music, organ donation, and his family and friends. Nothing made him happier than being on stage singing his favorite blues and southern rock tunes in his big, beautiful voice that brought so much happiness to the people around him. He worked tirelessly to promote organ donor awareness and he was a valued volunteer at Life Gift. He also worked closely with and was a tremendous comfort to numerous organ transplant patients helping them to prepare for their transplant and life, post transplant.

Dallas was most passionate though, about the people in his life. His family and friends were what mattered most to him. He was generous to others far beyond his means, he never met a stranger and he had a gift for making everyone feel like they were special. His warm, caring smile was always genuine and he always had a wonderful, positive outlook on life – he truly cherished every moment.

His friends are far too numerous to name but they all know who they are because he never forgot to let them know he cared. To know him was to love him…in the end he was most proud of the relationships he had forged with the people he loved. We will never forget you Dallas, your spirit will always be with us and our next lemon drop will be raised in tribute to you…

I always loved it when Dallas sang "Blue Sky". And now that's exactly where he's at, with a new heart & feeling just fine.
Sing on bro! We love you & we'll see you soon!

I haven’t visited in over a decade and it has been such a long time since I saw Dallas last. I always planned to visit the next time and the years have gone by quickly. I will always remember Dallas as a joyous and kind person; full of laughter. I extend my deepest sympathy for his family and friends.

To the Family:
Dallas and I go back to Jr. High at Miller A. I have a picture of that smile and all that positive energy. That will always be him in my memory.

Dallas was such a wonderful person. Always open and friendly and caring about others. He was a great volunteer in so many ways to the benefit of so many people. He was a remarkable ambassador for organ and tissue donation. I will miss him. It is a blessing to have known him and I will carry memories of him forever.

This is a picture of Dallas and me just 4 months after my liver transplant. This was the very first meeting face to face. We had talked countless times while he was counseling and supporting me before and after my transplant.

I adored Dallas! He would call me up to chat and it just made me smile. He was funny, witty, charming and an all around great guy. I loved his opinions (he had one on everything!) and his energy. I will proudly be wearing my Just Got Lucky shirt that he hand delivered to me just a few weeks ago.

Sending peace to the family.
