Gail Anne Moore, 71, of Sealy, Texas, passed from life to death on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. Gail was born on October 28th, 1949 in Burlington, Iowa the first child of David and Lorraine Gerdes. Her sister, Barbara, joined the family three years later and the family of four lived happily with David working as an electrician and Lorraine teaching English while raising their girls. Gail attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa where she received a bachelor’s degree in geology. The summer before her senior year she attended a geology field camp where she met Leonard Moore who was attending the same camp from the University of Connecticut and they fell in love. They were married August 21,1971 and moved to Dallas where Leonard attended SMU. Gail worked several places in the Dallas area, including Texas Instruments, while Leonard finished his degree. The pair moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma when Leonard started his career as a petroleum geologist with Phillips in 1975. Gail joined Leonard working in the oilfield while they welcomed two boys, Alexander in 1976, and Benjamin in 1978. When Leonard was offered the opportunity to move overseas to work for Phillips as an expat, the family of four moved to London and welcomed their third son, Andrew, in 1979. Gail had her hands full living abroad with three young sons and when the family moved a few more times around Southeast Asia, they welcomed their fourth and final child, their daughter Katherine, in Bangkok, Thailand in 1982. After a few moves both state-side and in the Middle East, the family of six settled in Katy, Texas and Leonard began working for Exxon. Gail stayed occupied with raising her kids, volunteering with the PTA and Boy Scouts, taking them to all of their after school activities. Gail joined the Katy Garden Club and served as president for several years. She and Leonard were active members at Second Baptist Church and moved out to the new Katy location when it was built. Both she and her husband loved gardening and cultivated orchids in their backyard. Gail also loved crafting, specializing in unique crochet pieces and beautiful afghans.
After all four of her children had left for university, Gail and Leonard decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning a cattle ranch by buying property and building a new home in Sealy, Texas. After moving to their new home, Gail purchased a shop in downtown Sealy and transformed it into a quilting shop, selling fabric and supplies for needle work. Gail continued her volunteer work by teaching adult ESL at Second Baptist Katy. In the ten years she owned and operated her quilting shop in downtown Sealy, Gail greeted all her customers with a smile and a story, offering them a place to shop, relax and read quilting magazines, and complete projects for their loved ones. When Gail received her cancer diagnosis in 2018, she was determined to fight hard and she powered through chemo, radiation, and surgeries all while serving the community of Sealy with her love of quilting and crafting. Gail is preceded in death by her loving husband, Leonard, who passed June 8th, 2020. She is survived by her sister Barabara Lentz and her husband, Ken Lentz of Waterloo, Iowa. She is also survived by her four children and their spouses, Alexander Moore, Benjamin Moore, Alfonso Pelayo, Andrew Moore, Amanda Moore, Katherine Patrick, and Luke Patrick and her six grandchildren, Hunter Moore, Anderson Moore, Vivienne Patrick, Nathaniel Moore, Oliver Patrick, and Asher Moore.
