Garrett Elder Jr. was born of January 12, 1932, in Richards, Tx to Pearl Bay and Garrett Elder Sr. He was the youngest of ten children; he loved his siblings: Sadie, Delsie, Hazel, Osdell, Jessie, Elizabeth, Eva Mae, Drew-Willie, Terry and Nepolian.
At an early age, Garrett confessed his love for Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Garrett later joined Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, where he served in The Parking Lot Ministry, The Dream Team, The Male Chorus, and Senior Class of Life Skills Academy until his passing.
Garrett learned hard work and dedication as a young man; he worked a Gulf State Steel Corporation as a steel operator until his retirement.
In 1960 he met and married the love of his life Charlene Pryor-Smith, together they raised eight children: Robert, Calvin, Robbie, Michael (Carla), Dwight, Ronald (Stefanie), Janice (Tommie Sr.), and Angela.
He had a profound passion for golf and played for over 50 years. He was a dedicated instructor at Sharpstown Park and Golf Course, where he taught until his health declined.
Garrett was the patriarch of his family, a devoted father, a loving grandfather, and a great-grandfather. He was a loyal friend who would give his last.
On April 20, 2021, Garrett entered into eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, six sisters, three brothers and three children.
His precious memories will be cherished by his sister, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
