Gary Guzman, Sr., born October 4, 1962, was called home in the name of our Lord and Savior August 1, 2025. He is preceded in death by parents, Adam Sr. & Dora Guzman; brothers, Daniel Villa & wife Patricia Villa, Adam Guzman Jr. & wife Maria Guzman, Paul Guzman and brother-in-law, Charlie Flores.
He is survived by wife, Belinda (Bo) Guzman, sons Gary Guzman Jr. & wife Sandra (Champ) and Juan (JJ) Herrera; grandkids Alyssa S., Celeste, Shayla, Felix, Alyssa, Hope, and Eulalio. Also by siblings, Larry Villa, Maria Flores, Sylvia Cortes & husband Willie Cortes, sister-in-law Sarah Guzman, Brian Guzman, Sr. & wife Helen Guzman, and Elida Arjona along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and many friends. Also his precious ‘killer’ furbaby, Blossom (‘Brahsthom’), whom he loved very much.
Born in Austin, Texas, Gary was the youngest Guzman son and, therefore, had many siblings to protect him because, as mama would say, ‘has soft bones’ since he was born a preemie. He attended Houston schools John F. Kennedy Elem, Hamilton Jr. High, and Reagan High School. His school years were filled with great stories including a daily chase and losing his lunch on the way to school by brother Paul. Gary worked for Flooring Services for many years and took pride in his work in every instance. He had a lot of nicknames, far too many list, but we all know him best as Sugar Bear. He loved family outings and would call to check on you often. More than anything, he loved his devoted wife Bo. They always made each other laugh. She was the center of his world and he was the center of hers.
Gary did not know any strangers. While speaking with him, you would feel his kindness and sincerity along with his humor. His true hearty laugh would lift your spirit and you became instant friends. Lifelong friends.
He was a God-fearing man and always ended conversations with encouraging your faith. To be specific, he would say, “Bye . . I love you . . Read your bible!” and to this we say, “absolutely; rest in heavenly peace.”
A visitation will be held on August 22, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Pat H. Foley & Company, located at 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018.
A memorial service will follow on the same day, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at the same location.
