

Gary Michael Ponton Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on March 19, 2024, at the age of 80. He was born on February 21, 1944, residing his entire life in Houston, Texas.
Gary’s life was a testament to dedication, hard work, and a love for adventure. His journey began in scouting, where he was selected for the Order of the Arrow and attained his Eagle Scout Award. He graduated from St. Thomas High School and began working in his chosen career while attending classes at University of Houston. His career in Seismic Field Service spanned over 45 years traveling around the world and leaving a mark of excellence wherever he went.
Despite his professional success, Gary’s true joy came from his love of the outdoors, travel, and all creatures great and small, above all else, his greatest source of pride was his family. Those who had the privilege of knowing Gary and his ready smile, experienced his boundless love, kindness, and mentorship. He will live on in the hearts of all those he touched with his warmth and generosity.
His unwavering faith sustained him throughout his life. He defied medical odds, living on borrowed time for over 20 years after being given only three months to live. His resilience and strength were truly miraculous. Gary could brighten even the darkest days with his infectious laughter and positive spirit.
Gary is preceded in death by his grandparents, Anne and Faye Ponton, parents, Shellie and Edna Mae Ponton, and sister, Annis Kay Ponton. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Patricia Ponton, his three children, Shellie Ray Ponton, Kimberly Ponton Goodwin and her husband Ron, and Gary Ponton Jr. and his wife Crystal, as well as six grandchildren Ryan Goodwin, Kanyon Ponton, Conner Ponton, Gage Ponton, Carli Ponton, and Case Ponton.
Gary's legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the honor to know and love him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston or Holy Family Catholic Church in Missouri City, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 5-6pm, Rosary 6pm, additional Visitation 6:30-7pm, at the Advantage Funeral Home located at 7010 Chetwood, Houston, Texas 77081.
The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 11:00 am at Advantage Funeral Home, located at 7010 Chetwood, Houston, Texas 77081.
A Graveside Service will follow at 1:00 pm on March 26, 2024 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, located at 12800 Westheimer Rd. Houston, Texas 77077.
