Gary graduated from Manistique High School where he achieved academic excellence and served as class president of the student body. He was also athletic and played on his high school basketball and football teams. Following his graduation from high school, he attended Northern Michigan University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Master of Business of Administration. After 33 years of service, he retired from Bristol Myers Squibb in 2013. Gary and Carolyn “Carolina” have lived in South Carolina for ten years.
Carolyn and Gary met in 1984 at the San Antone Rose, a country western dance hall in Houston, TX. They danced in step and in love with each other as the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers of country dancing. They married in 1985 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Houston, TX. They would often look across the room at each other and say, “we are the lucky ones.” Carolyn whispered this to him one last time the day he passed away.
Gary excelled at everything he did including dancing, hunting, trapping, wood work, pottery, stained glass, and beading. He had a creative imagination and many artistic gifts. He loved all of his family and friends with a passion that was reflected in his beautiful blue eyes. He had the most wonderful sense of humor and brought laughter and mischief to everyone’s lives. He had a larger-than-life loving heart. Gary loved children and his cats, Maya, Miko, Salvador and Sparky.
While we mourn his loss deeply, we have faith that he is on the golden path to receive God’s loving and merciful embrace, to be in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, our Blessed Mother, our dearly departed family, and dear friends in heaven.
