My elder brother Gaurang's heart stopped on Christmas Day, 2018 while he was in a coma that resulted from a short fall at home. He left behind his heartbroken, inconsolable, 88-year old mother Sushila (his father Rajnikant had died in 2008), two younger twin sisters, Mala and Meeta, and his beloved dog Mojo whom he had adopted as he had done his prior beloved dogs Homer & Wrinkles. My brother had moved to Houston about two years earlier from his 1-bedroom apartment in Manhattan , after retiring from New York City's Department of Finance where he worked as an Assessor for about 30 years to live with our aged mother who had suffered a prior heart attack, stroke, & macular degeneration because he loved her unconditionally. The New York Mets, Jets, Rangers, and Knicks have lost their most loyal fan. I have lost the brother who introduced me to baseball, football, ice hockey, and basketball; to country music stars from Willie Nelson & Patsy Kline to Vince Gill & George Strait; blues musicians from Muddy Waters to B B King; rock and roll legends from the Bread to Creedence Clearwater Revival to Queen. He embodied the saying "pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep going" from the time of his birth in Bombay, India through his graduation in Business from Rice University in Houston through his health challenges, professional disappointments, and marital failures. Above all he kept smiling, retained his sense of humor,  and remained utterly devoted to his beloved mother.

I knew Gaurang as a friend and co worker for 20 years. I will remember him as a dedicated and helpful worker, a die hard Mets fan, loyal Rice alumnus, and dog lover. To his family, I saw him as a caring brother and dutiful son. We went to ball games, concerts, museums, restaurants, and even the opera. The last thing we did was play mini golf. He left us too early. RIP.

 Guarang will always be remembered as someone who defied the odds and persevered when confronted with devastating illnesses.

His love of animals and his compassion for those whom he considered less fortunate than himself is his legacy.

To his sisters and his mom hold on to your memories.I am sure there are many.
