
Gavino Lerma Aguilar, 71, of Houston, Texas, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Gavino was born in Harlingen, Texas, to Conrado Aguilar and Maria Aguilar. He graduated from Davis High School in 1972 and went on to build a long and dedicated career. He worked as a painter for Union Pacific from 1973 to 1983, then served as a Manager at ETD from 1983 to 2008, and later as a Manager for ECOM from 2008 to 2025.
Gavino enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, spending quality time with family in his garage, and listening to Tejano music, especially Freddy Fender and Elsa Garcia. One of his favorite songs was “Mathilda” by Cookie and the Cupcakes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Conrado Aguilar and Maria Aguilar; his sister, Lorie Aguilar; his brother-in-law, Alfredo Martinez; and his beloved son, Sammie David Garza Jr.
Gavino is survived by his loving wife, Eva Aguilar; his children Russell Rodriguez (Kathy Rodriguez), Garrett Aguilar (Gladys Aguilar), and Jeremy Garza; his grandchildren Jacob Garza, Victoria Garza, Brandon Rodriguez (Amanda Rodriguez), Michael Scheafnocker (Kailee Scheafnocker), Jason Rodriguez, Joshua Rodriguez, Davin Garza, and Sammie Garza; and his great-grandchildren Anna Rodriguez, Emora Garza, and Owen Rodriguez, who is on the way; siblings Conrado "Sonny" Aguilar (Karen Aguilar), Joe "Chita" Aguilar (Susan Aguilar), Rick Aguilar, Cindy Barajas (Mike Barajas), Nora Martinez and Linda Mares. Gavino will be remembered for his strong work ethic, deep love for his family, and the music and memories that filled his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, located at 2516 Navigation Blvd, Houston, TX 77003, on December 22, 2025, from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. A rosary service will also take place on the same day at 7:00 pm at the same location.
