

George Chan was born August 1, 1938 in Guangzhou, China to Wing-Chi and King Hung Lam Chan. He grew up in Hong Kong and graduated from Pui Ching. He moved to the United States to attend Ohio Rio Grande University on a full scholarship. He then went to North Texas State to obtain his masters in math. He married Phebe Chan on July 6, 1967 in Hong Kong.
They moved to the United States shortly after their marriage. He worked with Brown & Root and then later with Chase Bank. He has been long time resident of Houston and was a founding member of the Houston Chinese Church. Later he became an active member of Chinese Bible Church. Toward the end of his life he joined Southwest Chinese Baptist Church.
He has always had a heart for missions and reaching people for Christ which led to his life-long involvement with Chinese Christian Mission (CCM) where he served on the board. He was involved with CCM local missions in Houston and also abroad. He was also very active in the creation of the CCM Houston Gospel Center (CCMHGC).
George Chan is preceded in death by his parents, older sister Bianca Yip and older brother John Chan and his wife Phebe. He leaves behind his son Timothy, daughter Deborah, son-in-law Sanford, grandchildren Kelli, Austin, Cecelya, Camylle, and Cozytte. He is survived by his sister Laura and husband William, sister-in-law Mary, and brother-in-law Gilbert.
George was a loving husband, father, brother and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
