

It is with great sadness that the family of George Cortez announces his passing on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the age of 54. He was born on September 12, 1970 in Houston, Texas to the late Rosalia & Pedro Cortez.
George will be lovingly remembered by his daughter: Xophia Cortez; sisters and brothers: Josefina Haynes, Jose Cortez, Nelly (Roland) Escobedo, Gloria (Victor) Flores, Hilda (Felipe) Salazar, Victor Cortez, Olga Cortez, and Martin (Linda) Cortez along with countless nieces, nephews, cherished family members, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents: Pedro and Rosalia Cortez and brothers: Nicolas Cortez, Miguel Cortez, and Macario Cortez.
George began his career at Foodarama at the age of 16 as a sacker, a stocker, and later working in produce. At 18, he joined the meat department as a cutter, eventually advancing to the role of supervisor. In 2004, George received his Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Lone Star College, which supported his move into management. Over his 36 year career, George rose to manage several Foodarama meat departments as a Meat Buyer and Supervisor. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
A proud Houston sports fan, George loved cheering for the Texans and Astros at their games. He enjoyed cooking steaks, fishing, shopping for clothes, and collecting cars, embracing the finer things in life. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his large, loud, and loving family. George’s warmth, exuberance, and zest for life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
On April 13, 2025 George rededicated his life and accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at First Assembly of God in Livingston, Texas, embracing a renewed sense of faith that brought him peace and purpose in his final days.

Memorial Service and Funeral Procession is Wednesday, June 11, 2025:
Memorial Service begins at 10:30 a.m. at Funeraria Del Angel, 5100 North Fwy
Followed by a procession to Brookside Funeral Home and Memorial Park (13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039) for his final resting place at 12:00 p.m.
