George Bond Eng

Born in China in 1924, George immigrated to the United States in 1935. He met his beloved wife, Ho, and they were happily married for 76 years. Together they had two sons, Jeffrey and Kenneth Eng. Throughout his life, George was known for his profound kindness, his humor, and his love for his family.

During World War II, George proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps stationed across the United States from San Antonio, Texas, San Diego, California to the Aleutian Islands on the Alaskan Peninsula. He was a recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal honoring Chinese American WWII Veterans. George became a charter member of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance Houston Lodge in 1954 and throughout his time in Houston was a successful businessman who owned and operated two grocery stores and a roller skating rink.

In 1982, George retired and became a full-time grandpa. Some of his favorite pastimes in retirement were spending time with his grandchildren, watching western movies, cooking favorite family Chinese dishes, and tending to his garden. He also spent his time traveling with friends and family to California, Hawaii, Hong Kong and China.

George is survived by his wife, Ho Gum Jeu Eng; his sons, Jeffrey Eng (May Hong) and Kenneth Eng (Alisa); his grandchildren, Lindsay Roberson (Andrew), Whitney Coffey (Chris), Jon Eng (Christine Shin), Kristen Eng, and Brandon Eng; and his great-grandchildren Elle Roberson, Tate Roberson, Liam Coffey, and Evelyn Coffey.

A private, graveside burial service for close family members will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home on Saturday, October 5, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the following organizations that were meaningful to George and for the support they provide to the community:
