George Rodney Gurganious, 68, passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2018. He was born in Newport News, Virginia on October 28, 1949. In ’63, the family moved to Houston and some years later, “Roddy” joined the United States Marine Corps. During his service, in 2nd Battalion 5th Marines, he was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor and two Purple Hearts with 11 awards in total. Upon his return home, he started a career in radio and television. “Charlie Scott” was a DJ on a variety of radio stations and a news anchor on Channel 39. Then with his entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen, and strong will to do it his way, He opened and operated a mobile phone and pager company. With much success, he found happiness on Fort Fidelis Ranch; his property, his playground, his peace.
He was survived by his loving father George H. Gurganious and wife Margaret.
He was survived by his children Jennifer Lynne Wilkens and husband Luke, Kevin Nicolas Gurganious and wife Brittni, and Benjamin Ryan Gurganious. And grandchildren Kaydence Madison and Ellie Grace.
He was survived by his sisters Sherry Gurganious Haley and Julie Lynn Gurganious Safford. And in loving memory brother Timothy Allen Gurganious.
Uncle Roddy was survived by nieces and nephews Steven, Samantha, Lindsey, Anthony, Elke, and Cecily and much extended family.
He will forever be in our hearts and memories; may he rest in peace with his mother Edna Merle Derr.
A gathering will take place Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 9:00am with a service at 10:00am at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. A committal service will follow at 11:15am at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038
