George C Hepburn Jr.
August 15, 1921 – March 31, 2014
George C. Hepburn, Jr., passed away peacefully on March 31, 2014. Born in Mason City, Iowa on August 15, 1921, he was the only child of George and Eda Hepburn. He is survived by his children: George Hepburn and wife Lesa; Margaret Hepburn; Jim Hepburn and wife Victoria; Jennifer Badalamenti and husband Anthony; and Elizabeth Abdalla. George has five grandchildren: Abby and Eddie Hepburn; Caroline and Catherine Badalamenti; and Jasmine Abdalla.
Raised in Milwaukee, George earned a BS in geology from Beloit College in 1943. After graduating from Naval OCS at Notre Dame, he trained as a meteorologist at the U.S. Naval Academy, ultimately serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph (CV 15). During the war, he met his first wife, Peggy Aitken, a Navy WAVE. They married in 1947.
Following the war, as he was pursuing post-graduate studies at the University of Chicago, George was offered a job as an engineer with Schlumberger Well Services. Serving in positions of increasing responsibly in Schlumberger’s wireline operations, George switched careers in 1971 to supervise the company’s manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas. He retired 10 years later.
After Peggy’s death in 1979, George married close family friend Roma Hill. They settled in Lafayette, Louisiana. For the next two decades, Roma and George traveled extensively until declining health curtailed their activities. Roma passed away in 2008, and George returned to Houston.
Always the scientist and engineer, George had a passion for family, rocks, weather and precision. His professional and personal friendships often overlapped. His closest buddies were men who, like himself, did things well - except for golf - which he avidly pursued solely for the fellowship.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to the Houston chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
A memorial service will be held on April 17, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Grace Presbyterian church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane, Houston.

To my cousins Georgie, Margaret and Jimmy, my deepest condolences over the loss of your dear dad. My uncle George was always a terrific man, (and I knew him before you were born) funny and generous and upbeat and very very clever, he could freeze an entire room with his observations, waiting for his punch line, that would come in his time. And he carried on so bravely after your mom died, when she was way too young. I am so sorry he's gone.
I know he was always glad to be your dad, and get to see what you got up to in life. I too wish you the best.
Love, Cousin Annie
