George Robert Hess Jr., 74 of San Antonio, Texas., died Thursday, July 16, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada. George was born September 27, 1940 in Warrenton, Missouri. He was raised and went to school in St. Louis, and attained his Bachelors degree in Sociology at Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville, Missouri. His career was in law enforcement. He started out as a patrol officer in Kirksville and retired as Chief of Police at the University of Houston. During that time he also received his masters degree in education, and taught criminal justice while he was the Chief of Police at Meramec Community College in Kirkwood, Missouri. In 1961 he married his high school sweetheart, Antoinette C. Filla, otherwise known as Toni. They had four children and were married for 40 years until her passing in 2001. He was fortunate enough to find love a second time, and married Alice Vandervort Barrera in September 2004. They were best friends, husband and wife, and loved and cared for each other for almost eleven years. Together they enjoyed traveling, playing poker, and spending time with family and friends to whom they were generous with in time of need. George is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Joan Hess; son, Mark Hess; daughter, Ann Hess Sehorn and husband Chris; grandsons, Justin Wischnewsky and Nicholas Wischnewsky; son, Paul Hess and wife Jennifer; step grandsons, Mark Bryant, Jacob Bryant and Daniel Burkhardt. He also leaves a multitude of extended family and loving friends.
