A lifelong learner, he attended The Kinkaid School and Texas Tech University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He worked a range of jobs throughout adulthood including marketing oil drilling equipment and administering the Executive Development program of Rice University’s Jones School, but he rarely sought to be defined by his work.
George’s interests were wide-ranging, spanning from philosophy and history to astrophysics and electrical engineering. He sought opportunities to teach and learn throughout life, eagerly engaging experts in conversation and seeking always to grow in his understanding of our world.
George was most at home in his workshop-radio shack, where he brought myriad inventions to life and connected with like minds across the globe via ham radio, a life-long passion. His affection for the world of radio was matched only by his fondness for flying, which he engaged both as licensed pilot and as a builder of radio-controlled aircraft.
A man of great faith, he was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church from birth. He was driven by a strong desire to serve his friends and neighbors, most clearly manifest in his work with the Boy Scouts from childhood into adult leadership, and in his commitment to the associated Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. George loved and served nothing more than his family, the center of his world.
He leaves behind his wife, Cynthia Crowson Pierce; his son, Allen Carl Pierce and daughter-in-law, Julia Jacovides; his sister, Ann Pierce Arnett and brother-in-law, Bob Arnett; as well as numerous other beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his parents, George and Betty Pierce; and his sister, Nancy Pierce.
