

A native Houstonian, Sam was born on April 28, 1926 and was raised in the Houston Heights where he graduated from Reagan High School. He served in the United States Navy in World War II where he received an award for participating in the invasion on Okinawa. He went on to graduate from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1950. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. In 1955 Sam co-founded Monterey House, Inc. where he remained as president for the next three decades.
Mr. Michael is predeceased by his mother Marjorie Klotz, his father David A. Michael, Sr. and his brother David A. Michael, Jr. He is survived by his wife Helen Fritsch Michael, his son George “Mike” H. Michael, II, his daughters Michele “Missy” Michael Wibbelsman and Melanie Michael Rhode, his sister Marian Poole and his six grandchildren George III, Sarah and Jacob Michael, Emma and Zachary Rhode and Jack Wibbelsman.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Vigil at 7:00 PM in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas 77024. Interment will follow at 1:15 PM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
