Helen, Mike, Missy & Melanie,
Just today I read of Sam's passing I am sure it is a huge loss for you all.  I lived and worked with your family when I was a young student back in the early 80's and remember Sam to be always a true gentleman. I see from your photos he got to spend sometime with his grandchildren whom I am sure he adored and enjoyed. you will be in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

I can still see Mr. Michael with Coach Butler and Mr. McCauley in the middle of the football field at Oktoberfest full of life with a smile on his face.  He was "larger than life" to me and had a star quality about him.  I will always remember his smile and his kind hearted nature.  He made everything fun.  My parents were remembering that he was the only person with a television set at Oktoberfest so he could watch the football games.  I remember Monterey House and how delicious it was.  Having the Michael family at St. Cecilia took us all to another level!  I have always thought of Mr. and Mrs. Michael every time I have looked at the beautiful stations of the cross at St. Cecilia Church.  The new church was built the year I was in 8th grade and I remember that Mr. and Mrs. Michael brought the stations of the cross from a church in Europe that was destroyed during WWII, if I'm not mistaken.  We were all so excited and proud of our new church and I thought it was so special and generous that they were a gift from the Michael family.  They are so beautiful and they made the church complete.  The last time I spoke with Mr. Michael, we spoke about him going to Southwestern University in Georgetown where my sister Marisa had also gone to college.  He had such a soft and sweet demeanor and was so delightful....a larger than life presence with a humble and kind heart.  They don't make them like Mr. Michael anymore.  His contributions to my experience and the environment at St. Cecilia was so profound for me and for so many and will continue to be for generations to come at St. Cecilia.  I told someone today, "If you didn't live those years at St. Cecilia with Mr. Michael, you can't even begin to imagine them."  He is definitely one of those persons that left the world a better place for having been on this earth.  God's speed Mr. Michael!   We love you! The angels in heaven have some competition now.

No words can convey the loss of someone like Sam.  He was a great friend, and just a good guy.  His passing is certainly a loss, but we are all better for having known him.  Helen, Mike, Missy and Melanie, you are lucky to have shared in his life, just like the rest of us.  I know he and Mel have a lot of "catching up" to do.  The St. Francis Episcopal baseball program can rest knowing that Sam is no longer "out to get them".  We'll cry with you, laugh with you, tell stories with you, or just listen, let us know.

What a special and kind man and I will always remember and treasure the times growing up he took me to the rodeo and fishing at the bay.  I stayed with Mamaw a lot and he was such fun!
