George J. Schmitz, 97, passed away on April 16, 2021 in Houston, Texas. George was born and raised in Chicago. He served in the Army during WWII and received an honorable discharge in 1946. George then began his career with General Motors at Hanley Dawson Cadillac, which is also where he met his wife Sophia. George worked for GM for 40 years, climbing the ranks until his retirement as an Executive in the Cadillac Division.
George is predeceased by his wife, Sophia Schmitz, and son, George Schmitz. He is survived by his sons, Dr. Steven Schmitz and Jeffery Schmitz, his daughter Susan Vukelich, step-daughter Teena Crothers, and grandchildren Mike Schmitz, Ethan Schmitz, Stefan Schmitz, and Elizabeth Crothers.
George was an avid golfer and loving father, grandfather and husband. He lived his life to the fullest throughout his 97 years. He will be truly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Oaks 13001 Katy Freeway on May 12th at 4pm
