

Georgia Lee Jackson Rodgers Thomas was born on November 16, 1938, to Lizzie Lee Cook Jackson Tolbert and Jim Jackson in Smithville, Texas.
Georgia accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Smithville, Texas.
She met and married Clarence A. Rodgers on April 30, 1956, and unto this union, two children were born. She later met and married Preston D. Thomas, unto this union four children were born.
Georgia attended Mary A. Brown schools in Smithville, Texas. Then in 1963, she moved to Houston, Texas where she joined Christian Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend William H. Banks. At Christian Faith, she served on the Mission Board until she fell ill; and was no longer able to attend. She started her career in food services where she worked at various restaurants and retired from Houston Independent School District in 1989. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Blue Bird Circle. Georgia touched the lives of many people, especially children.
Georgia departed this life on February 22, 2022. She is proceeded in death by her parents; spouses; her beloved son: Gerry Rodgers, Sr. (GR); sisters: Brenda Sandel, Inez Thomas; brothers: Robert Jackson, Leroy Jackson, Leon Tolbert, Elmer Tolbert, Ross Lee Cook; one grandchild: Latorchia Beane. She leaves to mourn her precious memories by her children: Donnie Rodgers (Melinda), Debra Watson (Kenneth), Daryl West (Leon), Douglas Jackson (Charylene), Shelia Ray (Brian, Sr.); four sisters: Esther Thompson, Lizzie Booker, Vickie Holley (Len), Ruby Faye Cook; grandchildren: LaKisha Anderson (Carl, Jr.), Gerry Rodgers, Jr. (Crystal), Marcus Rodgers, Sr. (Micaela), Brian Ray, Jr. (Apryl), Tewauna Barros (Karrmyne), Charles Ethridge, Jr., Brandan Ray (Tierney); a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation for Georgia will be held Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Paul AME Church, 1554 Gears Rd., Houston, TX 77067. A funeral service will occur Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM, 1554 Gears Rd, Houston, TX 77067. A committal service will occur Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 2:15 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10401 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
