Gerald Wayne "Gerry" McCann, 79 of Clear Lake died peacefully at his country home in Round Top, Texas on Sunday, the 25th of September 2016. He was born in Houston on the 22nd of November 1936, to K.G. "Red" and Anna Ruth Turner McCann and grew up in West University Place, the second in birth of the four McCann boys. Gerry attended Pershing Jr. High School where he was chosen two years as an All City basketball player, graduated from Lamar High School in 1955 where he earned letters in multiple sports and was voted "Pin-Up Boy", and attended the University of Houston. In 1958, he married Sandra Jo Wells, now Welsh, and together they have two daughters; Sandra Delyse McCann Jaeger of Sonora and Kelley Wells McCann Keen of Round Top. In 2002, Gerry and his wife Karen Maria Centers, now Stromme, were blessed with the birth of their daughter Kaitlyn Maria McCann.
Gerry had an extensive career in the oil and gas industry, most specifically as an independent in exploration. In the early years he was employed by Superior Oil Company and Oil Field Rental Services.
Gerry was a competitive scratch golfer, winning many local and statewide tournaments. He was a member of Braeburn Country Club and later Bay Oaks Country Club. Additionally, Gerry loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Friends and family share many fond memories of hunting and fishing trips in Texas (especially Tennecot), Colorado and Mexico. He was a member of the Skillet-Lickers BBQ & Chili Cook- off team and later he and Karen were members of NASA's Red Baron Chili Cook-off and the Johnsonville Cookers BBQ teams.
Most of all, Gerry loved the coastal life. Whether jetting to a tropical island with beloved friend Nelson McCarter, or in Galveston with family and friends, he was most at home on or near the water.
Gerry is survived by daughters Delyse and husband James Jaeger, Kelley Keen and Kaitlyn McCann; grandchildren Garett Wells Jaeger, Alley Grace Keen, Averi Keen, Tanner Keen; brother John Douglas "JD" McCann, sister-in-law Carole McCann, widow of Dr. Michael McCann; Aleta McCann, widow of Kenneth McCann, nieces: Kathy McCann Lombardi, Michelle McCann, Kristi McCann Stephens, Monty McCann Guidry, many special friends and extended family.
