As a child, I remember seeing a picture of my mom Carol and cousin Gheri wearing long black leather trench coats. They looked like twins in the picture They'd tell stories about living in Oakland and going to Black Panther Events. My mom and her siblings Eugene and Larry plus cousin Gheri and her siblings Lenora and Dayvelle, grew up in the same household like brothers and sisters. I could listen to their funny childhood stories about "Future Head" and their childhood friends for hours.
As an adult, I reached out to Cousin Gheri, when she was in San Jose, for a place both me and my son Richie (2 yrs old at the time) could live temporarily. She and Deborah immediately opened their home to us. She knew I need support and guidance. One night she had me sit down, close my eyes, and take deep breathes and then she introduced the art of Meditation to me. Its one of the greatest gifts someone has given me; 25 years later I continue to meditate and I have taught my, now 26 yr old son and his 5 yr old daughter Star, the same peaceful tool.
I'm so fortunate to have had her in my life. I already miss our 5 hour phone conversations, which were filled w/ laughter, wisdom, non-judgmental advice, and most of all; Filled w/ Love...... I love you to the moon and back cousin Gheri. I thank you for being a bright light in my life and helping me become a stronger person. Each day I meditate, I'll send heavenly light to you; feeling inner peace by knowing you're our ascended angel watching over us all!!!!!

Aunt Geri (my mother’s sister) was an amazing woman! When I was growing up she was the only family on my mom’s side who made an effort to establish a realtionship with my sisters and I. When I joined the Air Force, Aunt Geri’s mentorship, guidance and encouragement aided in my continued service. She came to visit my sister and I in New Mexico many years ago when we were stationed there. She and I met up again when I visited my sister in Alabama. To say we had a blast is an understatement! Aunt Geri was a pleasure to be around, always made us laugh and a good time to be around. Most importantly her wisdom will live on with us for the remainder of our lives. I will miss her tremendously.

Although Cousin Geri and I are First Cousins we are more like brother and sister!...Growing up n the same household with such fond memories of our childhood w/siblings and loving family members!!!...We were so close and the same age(She's 3 months older., but for 9 mos we were 2gether age wise!...And we always acknowledge that!....We both served n the Army at the same time and met n Korea back n the 80's!!!...As I decided 2 make it a career, Geri decided 2 take another path!!.....We had an opportunity 2 spend 4 quality months 2gether while she lived n Alabama(which she called her home 4 over15 years!!...Go Tide, as she always said!!!)...During that time it afforded us time 2 reflect and reminisce on our lives with our siblings/parents / family members and mutual friends!!!....We talked about our life after working our entire lives...Her retirement plan was living with her daughter Debra (which she loved with all her heart and is her best friend!!) and Son-N-Law Kevin in Houston!!!....Although she did not get a chance 2 fulfill that dream(because she chose 2 continue working) she still made it a priority 2 spend quality time with her loved ones!....My sister was kindhearted and was always available 2 give support(moral/financial) to her family and friends n need!!.....I will always love U and although missing U everyday, I know it will come a time when we will meet again n our 4Ever Lasting Life!!!...Say hello 2 our love ones whom U have joined?....I Love U Cous.(63 4Ever!!!)....GOD is GOOD!!!!!....Your Brother 4Evermore!!!...Eugene Jr
