After the war at the age of 20, Gerry and his family migrated from Germany to Edmonton Alberta Canada where a few years later he began his life-long career in the oilfield services industry.
After having worked in Canada and the Middle East for several years, Gerry was sent to Venezuela on what he thought was a temporary work assignment. Fate intervened and he met the love of his life, his wife Dianorah Barbera-Engler. A few months later they wed on June 12, 1965. Shortly thereafter, Gerry decided to quit his job and establish his own company, which today, almost 50 years later is a thriving business, and one of Venezuela's leading oilfield services companies.
Gerry was hard-working, honest and a disciplined individual, who always valued education and was blessed with countless life-long friends. Despite his incredible success in business, his family was his greatest accomplishment.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents Wilhelm Engler and Ana Maria Engler and brothers Helmut and Hans. He is survived by his wife Dianorah Engler, daughter Jeanette Engler-Begala and husband Chris, daughter Marianne Engler, and sons Gerard Engler and wife Monica, David Engler and wife Cristina and Steven Engler and wife Paula. He is also survived by 10 wonderful grand children and his brother Lothar Engler.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the excellent care Gerry received from his physicians at Houston Methodist Hospital during the last few months of his life as well as to friends and extended family who were always there for support.
A memorial service celebrating Gerry's life is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 10th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where Father Tom Rafferty is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent pavilion.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mr. Engler's memory may be directed to St. Luke’s Children's Health Foundation, 190 E. Bannock, Boise, ID, 83712.
