Gilbert Cantu was a gentle soul of a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed in the early hours of October 31st, 2023 at 73 years old surrounded by his most immediate family. He is predeceased by his parents, Felipe and Sabina Collazo Cantu, his eldest brother Phillip Cantu, and youngest brother Enrique “Ricky” Cantu. He is survived by his wife of just over 52 years, Rosalinda Perez Cantu, sister, Alicia Cantu Sanchez, three children, his son and Daughter-in-law, Gilbert Jr. “Jay” and Sara Cantu, daughter and son-in-law Veronica and Timothy Chisum, and daughter Norma Alicia Cantu Morales, and four grandchildren Arianna Veronica Chisum, Angelina Norma Lois Chisum, Zachary Gilbert Cantu, and Alexander Marvin Doyan Chisum.
He was born on April 23rd, 1950 in Elgin, Texas. Showing his dedication and love to his family early on, Gilbert left school in 8th grade after his father passed away to begin working to help provide for his family along with his brother, Phillip. He spent most of his life in the Houston Texas area with Rosalinda as they began to grow their family. A natural handyman, Gilbert started at Murray Rubber as a maintenance technician for 11 years and was then an Igloo maintenance technician for 21 years, and finally was at Houston Grinding & Manufacturing for 20 years.
The memorial service will be held on the 11th of November, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the Brookside Funeral Home-Cypress Creek 9149 Highway 6 North Houston, TX, 77095. The viewing will be held from 12:00-1:00pm & 2:00-3:00pm with the service/rosary 1:00-2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to UT Health Houston, P.O.
