He later met Noemi Vasquez in Houston, Texas. They were married on September 18, 1971. They were together for 48 wonderful years, and had 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
In his lifetime, Gilbert Fernandez was a recording artist and musician from 1962-1965 with the group Sunny and the Sunliners. He joined the Navy and served his country. Gilbert later had a career of 48 years as a truck driver and drove from coast to coast. He was a great man and very funny. He always had a joke and story to tell. His name was Gilbert Fernandez, but they called him Woody.
He is preceded in death by parents, Mary and Fernando Fernandez; sisters, Aurora F. Garcia, Esther F. Lange; beloved wife, Noemi Fernandez; son-in-law, Nathan Montiel.
Left to cherish his memory are children, Caryn Araguz, April Fernandez-Terrazas, Veronica Fernandez- Landon, Cynthia Fernandez-Montiel, Bobbie Fernandez, Gilbert Fernandez Jr.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 beloved siblings, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Isaac Fernandez, Ernest Terrazas Jr., Christian Terrazas, Sean Fernandez, Gilbert Fernandez III, Gideon Fernandez and Adrian Guzman.
