

Gilbert S. Garza, 80, of Houston, Texas, went to his heavenly home on April 13, 2026. He was born on April 2, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Gilbert attended Driscoll Elementary School in Driscoll, Texas, and later attended Wynn Seale Jr. High School and W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi.
After leaving high school, Gilbert proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he settled in Houston, Texas, where he met and married Martha Vara, his beloved wife of 54 years.
Gilbert, "Gil," enjoyed a successful career as a top salesman for A.J. Foyt and several other dealerships. He later began a second career in welding with Oceaneering. A proud patriot, Gilbert supported causes that were close to his heart, including Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, and the National Rifle Association.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his mother, Albesa Saldana, and his father, Gilbert Garza. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Vara Garza; his son, Aaron Garza (Rosie); his daughter, Yvonne G. Liming (Mark); his grandchildren, Aaron Jr. Garza and Korina Garza; his eight siblings: Sonny Garza (Melinda), Sylvia Esparza (Robert), Henry Hernandez (Frances), Daniel Hernandez (Laverne), Eva Hernandez (Leo), Tony Ojeda (Rachel), Bernice Ojeda (Diane), and Yvette O. Garza (Ruben); his sister-in-law, Becky V. Herrera (Gene), and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, all of whom loved him very much.
Visitation will be held at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77038, on May 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location on May 29, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Houston National Cemetery from 1:15 pm to 1:45 pm. A reception will then be held at American Heritage Funeral Home from 1:45 pm to 3:45 pm.
