Gladys Marcontell went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2023. She was born in Westphalia, Texas on January 15, 1943. Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Buddy Marcontell; mother, Dora, and her stepfather, Tommy Thompson; and brothers, Jerry, and Gilbert Hejl.
She had a strong belief in God’s purpose and steadfast devotion to her family, especially her husband Buddy. Gladys and Buddy married when she was 16 years old. Buddy was Gladys’s treasure and after his passing, she was confident that God would not have created such strong earthly ties to be broken in Heaven. She took great comfort in knowing that they would be united again in eternity. To witness their love was a blessing to all who experienced it. Their lives together demonstrated the genuine meaning behind unconditional love.
Gladys, known affectionately as Momma or Granny, was and will continue to be the foundation upon which our family is built. Her remarkable intuition always directed her to provide comfort, guidance, encouragement, and friendship to those in need. She consistently demonstrated her core values of love, faith, compassion, and generosity. Her hands, callused from hard work, spoke volumes of her resilience and strength. Gladys lived simply. Regardless of her possessions or surroundings, her unshaken trust in the Lord empowered her to navigate any challenge that came her way.
Gladys's main hobby was gardening. Her passion for gardening was a testament to her unwavering belief in the divine beauty that surrounds us. Her tender touch transformed her garden into a breathtaking masterpiece, where vibrant flowers danced in harmony with the wind, and lush foliage grew to signify God’s immaculate artistry. We will forever celebrate the way she lovingly nurtured the seeds of God’s creation, both in her garden and in her heart.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Cowger and Karen Pawlowski, and their husbands Rick Cowger and Donald Pawlowski. Her four grandchildren, Kevin Cowger, Megan Pawlowski, Melissa Pawlowski with husband, Dale Watts, and Kimberly Cowger with husband, Michael Waller. Her two great-grandchildren, Emma, and Ava Waller, and sister, Rosemary Thrift. Along with her cherished dog, Ziva.
