

Glenn Raymond Brooks passed away on February 17, 2011 at his home in Katy, Texas at the age of 77. Born on July 4, 1933 in Idabel, Oklahoma, he resided in Houston for more than 50 years. He is predeceased by his parents William Bird Brooks and Ruth Epperson Brooks. Also by his brother William E. Brooks, his nephew Bill Brooks and his grandniece, Susie Malek.
Glenn attended Bay City High School, class of 1951. He attended University of Houston before beginning a 50+ year career in the natural gas measurement industry.
Glenn served in the United States Marine Corps. Glenn married his high sweetheart, Sylvia Williams, in 1954, in Bay City and they relocated to Houston shortly thereafter. Glenn and Sylvia recently celebrated their 56th anniversary.
Glenn’s career in the Natural Gas Measurement industry included employment with Bay City Gas Co, Houston Flow Measurement, Graphic Controls, and Gray Tool Co. He retired from Combustion Engineering in 1990 and began his own business, Glenn Brooks Associates in 1990. The family owned business stills exists today.
Glenn loved spending time with his family more than anything else and was a kind, generous, and loving man. Always a gentleman, his smile was genuine. His sense of humor was contagious and was an attribute that created very strong friendships that lasted his entire life. His detailed, vivid memory of his past entertained his family and friends and allowed them to hear stories of his youth in Oklahoma and Bay City.
He was an avid follower and fan of all Houston sports teams and was a proud Houstonian. He also was a regular attendee of Bay City High School football games, of which he was a past player, and looked forward to seeing many of his fellow classmates who regularly attended with him. Glenn coached Sharpstown Little League baseball for his sons and others for 13 years.
Those who knew Glenn probably were informed that he was born in Idabel, born on the fourth of July, and was proud American.
After finally fully retiring at 75, he loved visiting his river house in Matagorda, Texas, gardening, his dogs and sitting on the back patio with his wife.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia Williams Brooks of Katy, Texas. Sons and daughters in law Glenn Jr. and Vicki Brooks of Houston, Darrell and Dana Brooks of Katy, and daughter and son in law, Shari and Jerry Herrington of Houston, and grandsons William and Brian Brooks of Katy. Also, he is survived by his nieces, Charlotte Brown of Bay City and Connie Stavinoha of Houston.
Glenn’s family would like for you to join them at his visitation on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. A service of celebration will be on Monday, February 21, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Don Kidd officiating in the chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Concluding services Glenn will be entombed at Roselawn Memorial Park at 2:00 P.M. in Van Vleck, Texas.
