

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria Wai Man Kong on December 16, 2020 at the age of 58. Gloria, the second oldest of five children to Lawrence Sau and Evelyn Choi Kong, was born on February 25, 1962 in Hong Kong. The family immigrated to Houston, Texas in 1964 and was naturalized as US citizens in 1971.
Gloria obtained her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Communications from the University of Houston in 1988. She joined Blockbuster Video and was instrumental in their explosive rise in the Houston area. Gloria’s intellect and work ethics propelled her from Store Manager, District Manager to Regional Director in a few short years. Despite lifelong health issues Gloria never allowed her infirmity to hold her back.
Gloria was the parent to two lovely and spirited rescue canines, Baby Girl and Little Boy “LB”, whom she loved dearly. Gloria is preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Kong, older brother William “Bill” Kong and Baby Girl, and is survived by Little Boy; her mother Evelyn Kong; sister-in-law Pattie Kong; brother James Kong and wife Maria Kong; brother Gerald Kong and wife Yolanda Kong; sister Angela Kong Trinh and husband Quyen Trinh. She was also the favorite aunt to nieces and nephews Melissa Kong Garcia, Jessica Kong, Jared Kong, Nickolette Kong, Jacqueline Kong, James Kong Jr., Gabrielle Kong, Andrew Kong, Morgan Kong, Alexa Kong, Ashley Trinh, Brandon Trinh, Ryan Trinh, grand-nephew Alden Garcia and grand-niece Brooke Garcia.
Her kind and loving spirit was infectious and her strong will, determination and resiliency was inspirational, especially when it came to her deep devotion to God. She was a caring fur-parent, loyal friend, dependable sister, loving aunt, faithful daughter, a soldier of God. The world lost a special person, but Heaven gained an angel.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 27th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Chapel of Eternal Peace at Forest Park located at 2454 S Dairy Ashford in Houston with memorial services to celebrate Gloria’s life on Monday, December 28th at 10:00 AM. The memorial service will be live streamed via Facebook Live go to @ChapelOfEternalPeace · Funeral Service & Cemetery. Burial will follow immediately at 11:00 AM at Forest Park Cemetery located at 12800 Westheimer Road.
