Gloria was an Oklahoma girl and graduated from the University of Tulsa with a double major, Business and Education. She was president of her local Delta Gamma chapter as well as working and taking a full academic schedule. She was always attuned to the needs of others and was involved in many social activities around the campus, which allowed her to do what she loved best which was to help others.
Wherever she was, Gloria was a dedicated member of her church, loved children, and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. It was at the University that she met and married her husband of 57 years, Bob Parse. After they were married she devoted her life to her husband, her two children and following her husband through the many moves they made with a national Oil and Gas company. Everywhere they moved, she always stepped right into settling in as fast as possible and helping her family adjust to the new schools, new surroundings, new church, etc.
Gloria was a devoted member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, where she actively participated in the contemplative community.
When the family finally retired in Houston, Gloria found another organization that she chose to support with her time. Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) was a perfect place for her to minister to people. She stayed 20 years and received the volunteer of the year award. Gloria was surrounded by the many friends and nieces and nephews who loved her as she came close to the time she would leave this physical body.
Gloria was predeceased by her husband Robert G. Parse; son Robert G. Parse, Jr.; brothers-in-law: Melvin W. Parse, Jr and Allan W. Parse; and sister-in-law Janet McKinney Parse. Gloria is survived by her daughter Ellen (Patty) Worthington; sister-in-law Mary Agnes Scott Parse; niece Diana Parse Ball and husband Tim and grand-nieces Alisha Ball, Brenna and Cerina; nephew Doug Parse and wife Robin and grand-nephews Nathan and Caleb; extended family and countless friends, all of whom loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in her name to Chapelwood United Methodist Church Foundation, 11140 Greenbay, Houston, TX 77024 and/or Memorial Assistance Ministries, 1625 Blalock Road, Houston, TX 77080.
