Gloria Dawn Van Steenis (née: Gresty), aged 72, peacefully arrived in Heaven on December 4, 2016. She passed away at her home in Houston, Texas. She was born on August 21, 1944, to Vincent and Florence Gresty in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Gloria was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Full of kindness, warmth, wisdom, gentleness, and immense physical beauty, she was a light of love to all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
In her life, she briefly worked as a flight attendant and medical transcriptionist but dedicated the majority of her life to raising her four children. Active in church and Christian ministries for nearly her entire life, Gloria played piano, sang, taught Sunday School, and was a member of Cottonwood Church in Los Alamitos, California, and more recently, Lyndale Assembly of God in Houston, Texas. In her later years, Gloria battled Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Despite her diagnoses, she never lost her sense of humor, wit, or love of a good practical joke.
Gloria’s father, Vincent, predeceased her in 1991, and her mother, Florence, recently predeceased her on July 11, 2016. Gloria is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dale Van Steenis; her daughter, Regan Van Steenis, her three sons, Jon Van Steenis, Ryan Van Steenis, and Paul Van Steenis; her two sisters, Vincette Militello and Colleen Militello; her two brothers-in-law, Joseph Militello and David “Ron” Militello; her nieces and nephews, Kristy Militello Wylie, Ben Wylie, Santo Militello, Ryan Anglen, Danielle Anglen, and Vincent Militello; and her great nieces and nephews, Caprice Militello, Vito Militello, Ava Wylie, Macie Anglen, and Dylan Anglen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice dedicated to ending Parkinson’s Disease or Lewy Body Dementia.
