Gloria Jean Young

Gloria graduated from Jeff Davis High School. She met the love of her life, Jerry Young, in Houston, and was married on October 19, 1991. Gloria built a long career as a switchboard operator with AT&T, where she worked for 30 years and Houston Northwest Hospital for 15 years.

Gloria was a devoted Christian woman whose faith guided her throughout her life. She loved her family and friends deeply and enjoyed shopping, eating out, and attending craft shows. Most of all, she treasured spending time with the people she loved. Gloria was known for her high spirit, warmth, and compassion for others. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, kindness, and a giving heart.

Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Young; her mother, Gertrude Whatley; and her father, William C. Whatley.

She is survived by her siblings, including her brothers William C. Whatley Jr. and Terry Whatley, her sister Debra Bennett, brother-in-law John Bennett, niece Mary Bennett, stepson Bobby Young and numerous cousins and friends.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Brenda Ellis, who lovingly helped care for Gloria during the last few years of her life. The family also expresses its sincere appreciation to the close friends who walked beside Gloria with their prayers, love, and support throughout the years.

Gloria will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
